Running Pace Calculator

Calculate your running pace, race time, or distance. Pick what you want to compute, enter the two values you know, and the third appears. Results are shown in runner-friendly pace, time, and distance formats.

Examples

25 min over 5 km → 5:00 /km

Pace
5:00 /km
Pace
5:00 /km
Total time
25:00
Distance
5.00 km

How It Works

Formula

t=pdt = p \cdot d

p=tdp = \frac{t}{d}

d=tpd = \frac{t}{p}

min/mi=min/km×1.609344\text{min/mi} = \text{min/km} \times 1.609344

Variables

pp

Pace(sec / km or sec / mile)

tt

Total time(sec)

dd

Distance(km, mi, or m)

Pace, time, and distance are linked by time = pace × distance. Pick which one you want to compute, enter the other two, and the calculator inverts the formula. Distance is converted to a per-km basis internally so a mile pace and a km pace describe the same run; the selected distance unit only changes how pace and distance are displayed.

Frequently Asked Questions

01What's a typical 5K pace?
A typical 5K pace varies widely by runner. Use the calculator to convert a goal finish time into pace, or a known pace into finish time.
02How do I convert min/km to min/mile?
Multiply min/km by 1.609344. So 5:00 /km becomes 8:03 /mi; 6:00 /km becomes 9:39 /mi. Switching the distance-unit selector at the top of the calculator does this automatically — pace is always reported in the unit you picked.
03How does this differ from the speed-distance-time calculator?
Speed-distance-time is the unit-agnostic motion formula d = s × t. This calculator is runner-specific: pace as MM:SS, time as HH:MM:SS or MM:SS, distance in km / mi / m, with runner-friendly pace, time, and distance formatting.
04How accurate is a race prediction from a training pace?
This calculator converts pace, time, and distance. For race predictions, use a dedicated predictor based on a recent race result.
05Can I use this for treadmill pace?
Yes. Enter the treadmill distance and the elapsed time exactly as shown on the machine. If the treadmill is set to miles, keep the unit on miles so your pace and projected finish time match the display.
